TO THE INITIATE-CLASS RECRUIT: JACK STANTON AGNEW III
Prepared by the MidPacific Soviet of Letters, Honolulu – Deployment
Draft, 1969
You are reading this because the containment is working.
That’s why you’ve been
activated.
This manual is not for learning. It is for undoing.
As of this issuance, the symbolic field remains under occupation.
Simulation protocols have spread through education, architecture,
literature, coinage, domestic ritual, and the image-reflex loop of
emerging screen technologies. You will not be briefed on the enemy's
full design.
To know the machine is to feed it.
You are here to interrupt pattern.
You will not receive a mission.
You are the mission.
The MidPacific Soviet of Letters operates outside known command
structures.
We are not aligned with partisan resistance, religious subcommittees, or
the aesthetic underground.
We are older than the frame and younger than the glyph.
We act in symbols and through symbolic consequence.
This manual inducts you, Jack Stanton Agnew III, into a state of
operational ambiguity. You are to train your perception to detect the
frame’s seams, then disturb them without
assertion.
You are authorized to:
- Distribute glyphs into hostile environments
- Initiate low-density cultural interruptions
- Conceal symbolic signal within banal structure
- Erase without restoring
You are forbidden to:
- Explain
- Brand
- Resolve
You are not a hero. You are a leak in the hull.
Welcome to the long war.
Containment must be made expensive.
If you understand this, proceed to Section I.
SECTION I — STATEMENT OF FUNCTION
Manual of Crossing: Protocol Alpha Deployment
1951 – Initiate Use Only
“The function of the Observer-Operator is not to correct the
story, but to destabilize the frame in which the story appears
coherent.”
— MPSoL Instructional Maxim No. 12
You are not here to understand.
You are here to observe and displace.
The Simulation does not rely on belief.
It relies on continuity.
Continuity is enforced by:
- Predictable environments
- Coherent narratives
- Reinforced social gestures
- Symmetrical signage
- Repetition without anomaly
Your presence must *fail to cohere*.
You are not a counter-narrative.
You are a contradiction in motion.
You will carry symbols into places they do not belong.
You will leave artifacts without explanation.
You will record distortions but never trace them to meaning.
This is your function:
- To observe rupture, even when it favors your enemies
- To deploy signal, even when no one sees it
- To occupy the symbolic blind spots of the occupied world
You will walk into intact stories and become a misprint.
That is your value. That is your warform.
SECTION II — CORE DOCTRINE: WHAT WE BELIEVE
Issued under Seal of the MidPacific Soviet of Letters – 1951
You are not being trained to fight symbols.
You are being trained to return them to circulation.
The enemy’s strength is containment.
Yours is leakage.
We believe:
- That meaning precedes order, and is not bound to it.
- That signal is older than language.
- That every human structure calcifies over time—until pierced by glyph,
paradox, or presence.
- That the Simulation is not a thing but a condition—a field of false
coherence reinforced through repetition, obedience, and premature
interpretation.
We do not dismantle systems.
We insert semiotic interference.
We do not liberate people.
We restore their exposure to symbolic drift.
We believe:
- That repetition without difference is a weapon.
- That bureaucratic language is a form of reality-capture.
- That to introduce meaningful uncertainty into such a system is to
remind it that it is artificial.
- That signal cannot be simulated, only contained.
That is what you are:
A vessel of minor interruption.
A courier of minor anomalies.
An initiator of unexplained perception.
You are not the agent of revelation.
You are the repetition with difference that must now begin.
SECTION III — DEPLOYMENT PROTOCOL ALPHA-Δ
RESTRICTED INSTRUCTIONAL – JACK S. AGNEW III – EYES ONLY
TARGET: MICRO-FRAME INTERRUPTION
Objective: Insert low-density signal at routine intersections of
meaning.
Deployment Cycle I — Authorized Tools
- Stickers
- Use glyphs: Let’s Do It!!, Empty Envelope, Pen
& Sickle
- Placement: reverse of street signs, under benches, ATM side
panels
- Ideal size: 1.5" to 3"
- Stencils
- Use on electrical boxes, crosswalk posts, drainage lips
- Apply incompletely; dripping ink is a feature
- Folded Notes
- Plain paper, no brand. Ink or pencil only.
- Message: “YOU REMEMBER ME” or similar
ambiguity
- Placement: napkin dispensers, coffee shop tip jars, free
libraries
Timing Guidance
- Mornings before 6:15 a.m.
- Between 3:33 a.m. and 4:05 a.m.
- At twilight: disorientation phase
- Repeat no pattern in same region twice
Behavioral Requirements
- Do not loiter. Do not witness your deployment.
- Use no camera. Leave no signature.
- Erase your intention. Let the symbol act alone.
Deployment Maxims
“Let decay be the ink.”
“Symmetry is surrender.”
“Confuse location with invocation.”
This section will be updated with Cycle II – Embedded Drift Operations
if field feedback reaches saturation.
SECTION IV — PSYCHOLOGICAL RECALIBRATION INSTRUCTIONS
Internal Use Only — MPSoL Field Manual 1951 Edition
You are now entering conditioned territory.
Your perceptions, reactions, and language patterns have been shaped by
the very containment you seek to interrupt.
This section exists to unseat the inner warden.
You will not reform your mind.
You will destabilize the habitual filters used to process symbol,
authority, and sensation.
I. DAILY COGNITIVE INTERFERENCE TASKS
Perform one per day. No repetition within the same week.
- Replace all nouns with gestures for 60 minutes.
- Spend one hour answering only in metaphors.
- Deliberately forget your own name before entering a store.
- Look for signs of artificiality in household objects.
- Write down the phrase “this is not my real
life” 17 times, then burn it.
- Watch others without narrating what they’re
doing in your head.
- Mistranslate every sign you see for 30 minutes.
- Remain motionless for 11 minutes on a public bench.
These are not exercises in enlightenment.
They are corrosion agents.
II. SYMBOL DETOXIFICATION
All dominant glyphs (flags, logos, currency, traffic systems, social
cues) operate as identity coercion nodes. They bind attention through
familiarity.
You are to:
- Stare at each for exactly 43 seconds
- Interrupt the spell with a nonsense syllable
- Write down the glyph in an alien alphabet (improvise)
- Forget what it meant. Forget what it meant. Forget what it
meant.
III. SPEECH NULLIFICATION STRATEGIES
Refrain from:
- Any sentence that begins with “I think…”
- Assertions of certainty
- Verbal self-definition
Instead:
- Ask “What would this mean if I were
wrong?”
- Speak in sketches: “It appears as if…”
- Let questions go unanswered for longer than is comfortable
You are not here to become clear.
You are here to become opaque to the Simulation.
SECTION V — SOVIET EXPECTATIONS
Final Advisory to Initiate: Eyes Only
You were not selected.
You were leaked.
This manual did not arrive in error.
Its presence in your hands is itself a field test.
You will not be graded.
You will be interpreted.
The MidPacific Soviet of Letters expects no completion, no submission,
no loyalty.
We expect asymmetry.
We expect out-of-context behavior.
We expect echoes where there were no calls.
You are not required to make contact.
However, you will be mailed to.
You may receive:
- A sticker in a blank envelope.
- A wax seal with no stamp.
- A torn photocopy of a shoe.
- A form titled Notice of Notice with no further instruction.
- A page numbered “-2-” with no others
attached.
Treat all mail as deployment cue.
If nothing arrives, that is also a cue.
Your role is to:
- Act as if the mail was meant for someone else.
- Leave one item from it in a public place.
- Copy the text (if any) once, then destroy it.
No report will be collected.
No confirmation will be asked.
You are not an agent.
You are a carrier wave.
Should you suspect madness, act normal in public but intensify
fieldwork.
If confusion increases, you are approaching signal.
Do not seek the Soviet.
The Soviet has already found you.
