Operational Definition — What This Is

Algebra is not a collection of formulas.
It is a finite system of permissions.

This manual isolates the lawful moves beneath algebraic transformation. Instead of asking a reader to remember procedures or perform cleverness, it asks one question at every step: what are you allowed to do next?

The objects can change from numbers to functions, vectors, matrices, or abstract elements. The permissions remain. Mistakes become procedural rather than personal, and a broken solution can be traced back to the last legal move.

Method

Legality Before Strategy

The manual teaches which transformations are valid. Choosing the most useful valid move still belongs to context, practice, and the reader.

Declare two expressions the same and establish the balance that makes later movement possible.

Substitute equals for equals locally, carrying information through an expression without changing balance.

Join expressions using agreed operations and build compound structure before values are known.

You May Rearrange

Change order or grouping only when the governing operation permits it.

Identify governing operation, grouping, and scope so legality becomes visible before action.

Reverse a parsed operation symmetrically when a valid inverse exists.

Apply any still-valid move again, letting small lawful actions accumulate into large transformations.

Find the outermost operation, its scope, and the structure governing the target.

Name the Permission

Identify exactly which lawful move authorizes the transformation you intend.

Preserve equality, respect conditions, and confirm that the move acted only where allowed.

Continue only while another permission applies. Completion is contextual, not theatrical.
